Para entender la historia del Ecuador del siglo XIX es necesario conocer sis instituciones. Este libro se propone aportar en esos campos de la historiografía nacional, a partir de cuatro textos fundamentales.
El primero ofrece una visión general sobre el Estado, la cuestión nacional y el poder político. El segundo trata sobre el papel cumplido y el Ejército en la vida del naciente país, con énfasis en su organización y funcionamiento. El tercero es una perspectiva general de la vida de la Iglesia Católica, con especial referencia a su relación con el Estado. El cuarto y último es un panorama general de la vida de los municipios del Ecuador en el siglo XIX.

To understand the history of Ecuador in the 19th century it is necessary to know its institutions. This book intends to contribute in these fields of national historiography, from four fundamental texts.
The first offers a general overview of the State, the national question and political power. The second deals with the role played and the Army in the life of the nascent country, with emphasis on its organization and functioning. The third is a general perspective of the life of the Catholic Church, with special reference to its relationship with the State. The fourth and last one is a general panorama of the life of the municipalities of Ecuador in the 19th century.
